Sustainable Tourism

Alternative or Sustainable Tourism is primarily meant for encouraging the dependency and the interaction between tourists and the native ecology of the place including local human civilization, the flora and the fauna of the place.

Coliving in Wilderness

A tributary of Narmada, the Banjar River flows through the Buffer Zone – about 64 km from the Park’s western gate along the north-western direction – and is regarded as the life of KTR because it is an important source of …

Experiences within SSEK

The Baiga and the Gond tribes are indigenous to the Mandla and the Balaghat districts of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. When Kanha was declared a national park in 1955 many of these native tribals were evicted from their place of origin.

Play at Surwahi

Bring Back Play on Holidays

We think without outdoor play there is no learning and play can be even more fun if its in wilderness. We at Surwahi Social Ecoestate Kanha have build out a safe recreational activity area consisting of variety of ride elements for our little guests and their families to bond. Most of rides are made of scrapped vehicle tyres.

Local Community Building

Women Self Help Group

Surwahi Social is committed to inclusive growth of the local resident people in and around Kanha National Park core and buffer areas. Local community building, empowerment, skilling, involvement and learnings are core fundamentals of SSEK achieved through Deetya Jagriti Women Self Help Group.

The location of the homestay alone can be responsible for five stars, located between forest, next to Banjar river,... it's a scenic place to stay. The caretaker and staff were very friendly, helping us to understand the local culture. The food is simple and good, and despite the eco model, there isn't a single essential thing like Wi-Fi you would miss. Kanha national park is less than 40 mins from there and a short hike from the homestay would take you to Gidli ghoghra waterfall, which is a must-do for nature lovers. Sitting in between trees around a bonfire while listening to wildlife fantasy stories was the best point of our stay there. Would recommend taking the pottery lessons and enjoying the nature walks. Definitely visiting again.read more

The initiative taken by Surwahi Social Ecostate Kanha is a sincere effort towards promoting sustainable tourism in The... Jungle Book's inspiration Kanha national park. This facility is only 20 km from Khatia, provides shared room stays at reasonable prices and food that feels home-cooked. It's one of the best places to stay if you wish to explore the rural landscape and the forest's wilderness. Villagers are also very welcoming to the guests. I would recommend visiting the place at least once and taking a glimpse into the peaceful life in the village. You may also enjoy trying your hands at pottery or gardening.read more

We enjoyed our stay because of excellent staff and above all Narendra Patle. He managed other staff and our... requirements perfectly.Though, it is advisable to negotiate food costs and preparations in advance. I suggest to owners to have systematic mechanism in place regarding food requirement and costs. Also, it is not properly updated in Google maps. We were lost couple of times before Patle came and guided us the road. It’s a interior place, 14 - 16 Kms from Mocha. Very quite and relaxing. Overall, nice place to visit for a day or two.read more

We were here only for 2 days, but the hosts were very friendly and welcoming. Almost all the facilities provided were... environmental friendly. With its near proximity to Kanha National Park, its serene, breath-taking location along with its unique architectural design gives you country vibes and is a great place for a getaway from daily hustle of life. Its relaxing and calming atmosphere as well as its authentic service was rejuvenating. It is undeniably a fantastic location for a vacation.read more

Our stay at Surwahi was one of a memorable stays in my life. The property is rich with its biodiversity. A million... types of birds and diverse trees. Someone like me who's constantly looking for such places to spend some peaceful time, should visit here. Do not miss the sight of a golden oriole right on a huge mahua tree right in front of the entrance. The food was exceptional. Dheeraj ji is such a warm and friendly person. I'm a vegan and he always cooked dishes keeping that in mind. All the staff at surwahi were very nice and comforting. Felt at home. The dormitory stay was a great experience. The place is nicely maintained amd extremely clean.Would highly recommend surwahi social.read more

Our stay at Surwahi Social Kanha was completely overwhelming for us. The lush green 10-acre campus has been so well... nurtured while the Earthen construction of the Homestay stands as an eye opener for every visitor. We must say, be ready to be surprised at every turn! Care has been taken to ensure all buildings are wheelchair friendly, which to me was a very noble thought for such an eco-tourism stay. A kids play area amongst wilderness is also built using upcycled materials. As aptly named, Surwahi Social, managed by a localite Mr. Narendra Patle is a team of friendly and homely faces, including the talented chef Mr. Dheeraj who were all a pleasure to be around with.To sum up, anybody who is very keen to connect back with the elements and at the same time gorge on sumptuous food, this place is a must-go.read more

Awesome property, very well maintained. Food and service is one of the best. You can’t complaint about it. Location is... best. It's inside the jungle and a river flows nearby this property. You can spend entire day near that river. You can see lots of different species of the bird in the morning. My daughter enjoyed it a lot. Go for at least 2 days of stay to enjoy it fully.read more

Everything from the location, staff, food & ambiance was perfectly arranged and we can't thank enough especially to... Narendra and team for making it a memorable one. Kaka's wildlife fantasy stories along with bonfire in the chilly winter was the icing on the cake, equally enjoyed pottery session and not to miss the nature walk which was highly refreshing and ideal for the birding. An innovative play area, a complete ecofriendly building and a unique worship place makes it an enriching experience which one must explore. Need to add a little more sitting arrangements especially for dining rest everything was on the dot. Overall, we enjoyed the stay and shall plan a visit soonread more

I with a few of my friends stayed at Surwahi Social for 2 nights in November end. Located right in the jungle makes it... for a perfect stay experience. The calmness, the chirping of birds give you an ultimate experience. The food, bonfire and the conversation were superb. We did a night walk and that was amazing. The river, Banjar which flows just at a few minutes walking distance from the property is stunning. We spent good time there. The host, Narendra is always there making arrangements and helping. With all this great how can I forget Anil and his friend who prepared food for us. Tea in bamboo glass, poha in banana leaf. All was amazing.Bed, bathroom, towel and the food - reminded us that environmentally sustainable accommodations are the need of the future.Thank you for the amazing experience.read more
